Our Degrees in Arts, English, and Humanities
In addition to associate degrees and bachelor degrees in General Studies with a concentration in several disciplines, we offer the Bachelor of Liberal Studies in three disciplines: English, Communication Studies, and Theatre. As of this semester, however, we are no longer offering the option of the BLS in English or Communication Studies. These degrees will be phased out and supplanted with two new degrees: the Bachelor of Arts in English and the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.
What Our Students Learn
These degrees offer strong backgrounds in the disciplines to prepare students for their professional and education pursuits in the future. Graduates with a BA in English or a BA in Communication Studies from LSUA will have no trouble using the skills they have learned to find and to keep—and more importantly, to keep up with—jobs in any number of fields that require critical thinking, creative problem solving, and clear expression. Prepared by our strong curriculum and resourceful faculty in small classes with lots of one-on-one attention, our better students will be eligible for immediate employment or graduate study, including such professional programs as schools of law, social work, library science, journalism, or medicine.
Undergraduate Research
By emphasizing undergraduate research we prepare our students for the workplace or for graduate studies, depending on their goals. Our English and Communication Studies students have presented their research at state, national and international conferences, practical experience that makes their resumes attractive to both employers and graduate schools.
